Road Rage

Sad to say I have been witness to a harmful event on the road.  The picture above is almost what this event was leading to UNTIL one of the drivers decided not to step out of her vehicle.  Yes, it was a female driver against a big burly male driver and his wife.  I was sort of begging heaven to give the female driver some sense to lock her doors and stay in the safety of her car.  Good thing my prayers were answered! The male driver was all hyper with cursing words.  His wife, ...

Now this is a great way to experience the Grand Canyon now is it?   The Grand Canyon Skywalk is an engineering feat that is sure to give you the thrill of a lifetime.  The skywalk is an over-arched pathway running over a cliff constructed March of 2004, it was opened to the public on March 2007.  It's constructed 4,000 feet above the Colorado river, suspended at the very end of the Grand Canyon. While it's mostly made of glass, it has passed strict engineering standards making it as steady as it can be. ...

Where’s Waldo?

Went to Barne's and Noble today to drink a cup of Starbuck's peppermint chocolate and to read MacWorld.  I've just browsed through the first few pages when my daughter tugged my shirt to say "Dad, can you help me find Waldo?".  I knew what I was in for and I new I wouldn't read my magazine at all.  We spent about an hour and a half going through every page.  It was fun, really, and I think finding Waldo is one of the things every dad should do with their kids. Kinda brought back ...

The HongKong Life

If you've been to HongKong, you'd definitely know the distinct experience it offers to tourists, businessmen and long-term vacationeers.  Culture is the main offering that this open city offers its visitors.  A mix really of several south east Asian cultures such as Indian, Vietnamese, Filipino, Singapore/Malaysian and Thai.  While the Chinese culture overwhelms it somehow balances out as the city government has zoned them quite well. Let's talk about food:

The food is not salty or greasy and seafoods are prepared especially well, usually served with steamed rice. Specialities include Dim Sum (savoury snacks, usually steamed ...

It's not only China that's going bike crazy, Amsterdam is following the craze with bike rentals by the thousands.  If you're heading the windmill country you may want to consider breezing through the many wonders this city has to offer by riding one of them bicycles.   CNN travel correspondent Rick Steves has written a good piece on CNN.com today.  Funny how he writes that even while riding a bicycle he would get flirted to by "business women" in red draped curtain windows.  That's a great snapshot to take, but for privacy purposes, we ...

I've had my fair share of local and international travels.  Everytime I "hit the road" I am always brought to "hit the wall" when the time comes to pack.  I just couldn't fit what I need to bring in a small suitcase.  Really!  My solution?  Have the wife do the packing for me.  I tell her where I'm off to and what I'd be doing and she magically hits me spot-on with everything I'd ever need.  To return the favor, she makes sure she adds a few space for anything that she'd love me to bring ...

A Humble City

Hoi An is like setting foot inside one of those old Chinese movies. The elements are all there. From the low-tiled roofs to the narrow streets, Hoi An is a picture perfect replica of what ancient Vietnam used to be. The small city is located in the South Central Coast of Vietnam. In the 16th and 17th century, it served as one of the major trading centers in Southeast Asia, attracting a lot of Chinese, Japanese, Indian and even Dutch people. Now, Hoi An is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Despite being a relatively ...

I know I posted an article about Tagaytay before but we just came back from another Tagaytay trip the other day and I knew I had to dedicate another entry to it. We didn't go to the same places this time. And although we only had a day to enjoy Tagaytay, we were equipped with a guide who knew the area well. My Mom's friend-- Auntie Mila. For the record, it had been colder than usual. Jackets were a must! Our first stop was the Moon Garden. Tagaytay is a nesting ground of gardens. Because of the wonderfully cool climate, ...

If you want to get away from all the stress and pollution that city life brings, how about taking a trip to Tagaytay? It's one of the coolest cities in the Philippines with an idyllic environment, perfect for those seeking to relax and rejuvenate themselves. Much has changed since my first trip to Tagaytay. Spa facilities have popped up through the years, gardens have opened themselves up to the people, and bed and breakfast inns have multiplied. Still, the addition of these establishments wasn't able to take away the peace and serenity of Tagaytay. When I was a ...

    Tech pumps

One of the biggest things I’m raving about here in the USA are those tech gas pumps.  You know what I’d mean if I say their pretty secure, fast and easy to use.  I remember in Asia when I’d pull into a gas station how I’d hand over my credit card to a gas attendant [...]

Get Your Kids Into The Olympic Bandwagon

We’re right smack in the middle of the Winter Olympics. Have your kids gotten into the spirit of it all yet? It saddens me that today, some kids would rather play sports via the PlayStation (or any other gaming console) than actually go outdoors and kick some butt. With the Winter Olympics [...]
