Hi, I’m Lorie, turning 23 in less than a week, and though I may be a <chubby> fashionista, I do not go for designer stuff. :p
I can talk about anything under the sun, and if you ask me a question about myself, I will give you a five-to-ten-page, single-spaced thesis on who I am, what makes me tick, what my passions are, and what would get me to wait on you hand-and-foot. And the latter is made up of two things: gadgets/software/tech stuff and chocolate. :p
Visitors to my place (dorm room) should bring a bar (or ten :p) of chocolate(s), but thereafter is free to use Phoenix, my clunky 701MHz, 256MB (RAM), 100 GB, Ubuntu Feisty/Edgy (dual booting), circa 2001 desktop. :p Only Grace, LC and Jay (friends and boyfriend) have been able to use Sayuri, my loved-yet-hated Macbook, for extended periods of time, unsupervised. :p
“Erm, too much info.” Something Tina and Pau (friends too) always tell me. But the boss sez “please feel free to introduce yourself on the blogs”. So I did. Royally over-the-top, don’tcha think? :p
Rest assured, I will no longer talk about myself in later posts, save if I can relate some pseudo-philosophical musing to my life. But you can always check out my personal blogs. I welcome stalkers. :p Just don’t mess up my blogs through hacking, please. :p
Anyway, the lesson for today, kiddies, is Katie Holmes. She has been on my mind lately, and there was this night that I actually spent two to three hours on celebrity blogs just reading and cringing about her life.
When I got a sponsored post assignment on my personal blog on celebrity blogs, I mused about her too. You can read it here.
Well, the short version of my thoughts on Katie is that her marriage to Tom Cruise is a total waste of a free spirit. :’(
And the next few paragraphs may never end. Kidding. :p
I used to identify with her on Dawson’s Creek and in the role she played on Disturbing Behavior (1998). I am old, I know. I thought her an edgy, free spirit. I admire free spirits, because I’d like to think I am one, too.
I saw her as an assertive young woman who knew what she wanted. I still think she’s the kind who will reach for her dreams at all costs, because of an article I read on how she had a crush on Tom Cruise ever since she was a kid. Talk about focus. She wanted it, and she got it.
But with her marriage, with how the tabloids are talking, it’s disappointing to see her now.
Caged in a weird religion crafted by a man reportedly known to have declared that the best way to get rich and be über-powerful was through creating your own religion, she seems to be descending ever deeper into bondage. I read about the reportedly extreme control on her by Tom Cruise, and it just pains me to see her fettered and shackled like that.
But then these are just my musings. I don’t like seeing women oppressed. With eons of oppression that have been imposed on us, it’s hard to think that even in this new era, we women are still in chains. True, wife battery is still rampant, female sex workers abound, young women barely beyond childhood are trafficked into slavery and menial labor, and numbers of women die of AIDS in Africa daily. Emotional, psychological and even spiritual control is a virtually unseen mode of oppression, but it’s no less insidious. If I think about it, it’s actually more virulent than the overt oppression of women.
You’d think that after women’s lib in the 70’s, women would be freer, less imprisoned than they were decades, centuries and eons ago. But…
Hey, how did I start so bubbly and then turn depressing all of a sudden?! Man. If I start on Katie Holmes, the gears in my head just turn. I knoooow! Katie Holmes! One mention of her name, and a pseudo-philosophical debate between Lorie and Lorie ensues! Lorie says “Oh lookie where Katie is now, pity, pity, pity..” And the split-personality Lorie argues: “Well, she got everything she wanted, didn’t she?! Money, fame, Tom Cruise…”
But hey, let’s not go on. You have work to do, I have work to do, and you can always visit PerezHilton.com for your gossip fix. :p Maybe you won’t see a philosophical take on celebrities, but hey, it’s Perez Hilton, and he’s always good for some cynical laughter. :p
Maybe next time I’ll just <publicly> muse on why I forever resist wearing Havaianas, though I do wonder how a pair will feel on my feet, and I do salivate on their metallic-colored designs, but will settle for a pair of Havanas or Hawaianas anyday. Do wash out the depressing Katie Holmes thoughts by going to some bubbly or acerbically funny gossip blog, why don’tcha? :p
This news is a little sad for me because I am a huge fan of the TV sitcom “The Office”. I’ve been following this show for the past two years and have really admired all the characters. One of my personal favorites was Daryl, the Dunder Mifflin warehouseman whom Michael (the boss) always always try [...]

What is your carbon footprint? Hmm… ok, let’s start over… What is a carbon footprint?
A carbon footprint is a “measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide“.
Here’s a nifty tool from ivillage.com, an online calculator to measure carbon footprints. I think this is [...]
Well loved queen of pop Madonna has spent 50 revolutions around the sun! That’s an awesome feat for someone who’s energized the world with good music… first-class entertainer. Madonna Louise Ciccone Ritchie (born August 16, 1958) is from Bay City, Michigan. Moved to New York city for a career in modern dance. After 25 years [...]
I’ve had my fair share of local and international travels. Everytime I “hit the road” I am always brought to “hit the wall” when the time comes to pack. I just couldn’t fit what I need to bring in a small suitcase. Really! My solution? Have the wife do the packing for me. I tell [...]
While summer can be the fun-filled time of the year IT CAN also be a huge debt trap. Every year, Americans splurge on summer expenses like trips, hotels, summer clothing, gears, and gadgets. Oh and all those have-nots that people just “need” to make summer extra perfect.
Every mall will hand out “special deals” to hook [...]
