I’ve read somewhere that “you are what you eat”, and I couldn’t help but agree. While this is in no way a health post, I’d like to side-step to say that maybe “what we eat is how we feel”. I mean think about it, don’t we crave for that special food when we are happy, sad, in serious time or crazy moments? Ah, yeah we do crave for ice cream to soothe us after a break-up, a scolding or a failure.
Mood food? I think that is so spot on, don’t you?
There is research to support that a deficiency in Omega 3 fatty acids correlates with depression. I would continue to say that normal levels of Omega 3 fatty acids in the body makes you … err, far from depression.
Folate, also known as vitamin B6 has been studied for its role in cognitive thinking. It has been found that a folate deficiency can cause dementia or cognitive problems, hence it’s important to take in enough to not be lacking. However, there is no evidence that taking extra folate will help with either dementia or mood.
Or how about it when you’re in theme parks. Why is there too many sweet food around? There is a study that says your mood shifts to the happy place when your sugar level is a little in the satisfactory level, moreso if you’ve exceeded it quite a bit. You enter a theme park in a gloomy mood, I tell you, after you perk up with sweets you’d quickly beam those choppers from ear to ear.
Is this all true??? Let’s talk.

Went to Barne’s and Noble today to drink a cup of Starbuck’s peppermint chocolate and to read MacWorld. I’ve just browsed through the first few pages when my daughter tugged my shirt to say “Dad, can you help me find Waldo?”. I knew what I was in for and I new I wouldn’t read my [...]
We all remember how good ‘ol mom would always remind us to “brush your teeth before going to bed, dear”, or “use toothpaste for heaven’s sake” or “would you please brush your molars too?”. It was good for mom to do that, if they didn’t I think half the world (or even more) would be [...]

25|Jul|2008Hi Jim
I absolutely believe that what you eat affects your mood. We set up The Mood Food Company (www.moodfoodcompany.co.uk) at the beginning of this year to try to get the message to people that what you eat has a bearing on all areas of your mood - e.g. energy levels, focus, happiness - not just your waistline. We give advice on what you should eat to improve all areas of your mood, then access to over 300 genuinely better for you foods, from ethical brands.
Best wishes
Morna
