There are few things that say “summer fun” quite as clearly as an amusement park. Children and adults alike enjoy time spent in those wonderlands with water fun and junk food. Unfortunately, many parks are forced to employ long lines in order to get everyone through on their rides. Keeping children happy during those long waits can be excessively difficult. Included here are a few ways to stay entertained while you are waiting this summer.
Talk to People
Obviously, the easiest option for entertainment is simply to engage with the people around you. Don’t become withdrawn or bored with yourself but get to know your fellow line standers. Ask them where they are from, what they do for fun, and how many siblings they have. If you are still waiting, after making it through that, ask favorite ice cream flavors, colors and ideal dream dates. Don’t be afraid to break the ice and you may end the day with a few new friends.
Sing the Beatles’ Greatest Hits
Enjoying great music is one of the best ways to make time pass quickly. If you can get your friends and fellow line standers to join in, all the better. But if you cannot get them to join, make it as uncomfortable for them as possible. Change the subject of the Beatles’ songs to include the word “noodle” or be about noodles. You may have a hard time getting through your song without laughing but you definitely won’t be paying attention to the clock.
Try to Lick Your Elbow
This is a great competition to hold between yourself and your fellow line standers. If you are lucky enough to have someone with an abnormally long tongue, this contest can get especially entertaining. Try other peculiar contests among your friends and attempt to win as many as possible. You can even hold a tournament for the winners of the most contests at the end.
Play “I Spy”
There is usually no shortage of people to watch while waiting in line. You can play I Spy using the ample supply of interesting, unknown people around you. If this game becomes boring try guessing the number of brunettes in line or number of people wearing red shirts. 20 Questions is also a fantastic way to spend time while waiting.
Be Silly
One of the most interesting games you can play is narrating the conversations of strangers around you. It is wisest to do this when they are out of earshot but still within sight, but if you are bold you can do it to your neighbors. Simply delegate characters to members of your party and adopt an entertaining voice or accent. You can even add thought-processes if you wish to get especially creative.
