They say that the word “shoes” is synonymous to the word “therapy” for females. Honestly, I could not empathize. As I told you, I’m allergic to Havaianas. And for me, therapy means: “Having $1M on hand, specifically alloted to buying computers and just computers.”
But there are days that when I amble about in malls, I find my feet carrying me to, well, footwear. And one time in early May, my feet brought me to a shoe rack that caught my eye.
What caught my attention was not flash and pomp. Rather, it was the quirky military-themed packaging, screaming “hardcore” that got me.
Charcoal is a no-frills line of footwear. As you can see, the designs are mostly flat leather thongs and sandals. These are priced at Php 599. There are a lot of designs to choose from, and there are even designs that are more androgynous. But I didn’t take pictures of those because I favor the elegant and minimalist designs.
The packaging is what captures the consumer’s eyes, actually. But when I looked at the footwear, I did think that this would be worth my money. The flat design screams comfort, the simplicity roars elegance. I think the design married my requirements for good footwear: comfortable enough to walk for hours in around the city, while being chic and elegant enough to be worn with dressy clothing.
There is a price tag in Euros in the packaging, which made me wonder about a few things. There is an email address there, too, but when I tried to contact it to ask for the history of the footwear, my email bounced back.
But for the sake of citing what facts I was able to glean, the packaging says that the footwear’s company is called La Ditta Componenti, Inc., and when I googled it up, they have a branch in Tiendesitas. There is not much else I could find online, though.
But still, these sandals are so kick-ass, they were worth writing about. Well, it’s a steal, after all, at Php 599? Methinks a pair of Charcoals are better than a pair of Havaianas any which way you look at it. :p

Went to Barne’s and Noble today to drink a cup of Starbuck’s peppermint chocolate and to read MacWorld. I’ve just browsed through the first few pages when my daughter tugged my shirt to say “Dad, can you help me find Waldo?”. I knew what I was in for and I new I wouldn’t read my [...]
We all remember how good ‘ol mom would always remind us to “brush your teeth before going to bed, dear”, or “use toothpaste for heaven’s sake” or “would you please brush your molars too?”. It was good for mom to do that, if they didn’t I think half the world (or even more) would be [...]
