What quirks do you have when you work?
Writers, they say, are the quirkiest people when they are on “work mode”. They tend to have personal preferences that few others can relate to, and they tend to have habits that sometimes alienate others.
I have my own quirks, as a writer, and all-around weird girl. For example, when I work, I have to have my hair up in a bun. Sometimes, I can work with my long hair down, but these moments are rare. Most of the time, I would need to have it up. Sometimes, I may start work with my hair down. But by the end of the day, it would already be put up in a bun, tucked into a clamp.
Also, I have to have a pitcher and a glass of water nearby for when I would need water. I had realized that it is very, very annoying to have to get up in the middle of a train of thought, just to attend to quenching my thirst. So I had taken to keeping water handy.
At least now, the only thing I need to worry about are potty breaks. :p
I used to use a setup wherein I had a table in front of me, for where I would park Sayuri my MacBook, and another table to my right, for where I will put my water pitcher and glass, and other food and drink, like my cereals and teas. But I later realized that that arrangement makes my dorm room so much more cramped, so I had to take the other table to the “kitchen” area, while the work table stays in front of my bed.
But possibly the strangest working quirk that I have would be needing to work in clothes that do not have sleeves or straps. In short, tubes.
I find that straps are cumbersome. Worse for sleeves, in fact. I used to work in the buff, but that’s not a pretty sight. It’s also absolutely inconvenient, especially whenever someone knocks on my door. That is why I had taken to wearing a… Petticoat.
Actually, it’s just an undergarment, a detachable lining to make sure skirts won’t show other, more sensitive silhouettes, made of thin material, much like a camisole. It’s otherwise known in these parts as a half slip. I chose this one over other possibilities in my closet, because its material is cool, it doesn’t have straps, and it’s loose enough to keep me from sweating, while tight enough to not let it fall.
And so I have the best of both worlds: I have a strap-free work garment, that still makes sure that I am reasonably clothed and ready to get the door, even though floating in an absent-minded haze. Heheh.
So how about you? Do you have your personal work-related quirks? Do share in the comments!
The earthquake that hit Haiti is one of the worst in history, and we are all witnesses to the suffering that the people of this country are going through. Even though you and I may be worlds away from Haiti, there are many ways by which we can help. For sure, you have [...]
One of the biggest things I’m raving about here in the USA are those tech gas pumps. You know what I’d mean if I say their pretty secure, fast and easy to use. I remember in Asia when I’d pull into a gas station how I’d hand over my credit card to a gas attendant [...]
Did you know that sales figures show (consistently) that during a bad economic period, more cosmetic products are sold than usual? These figures also show that after a tragedy occurs in an area, sales also increase.
What can we gather from this information? Just as Leonard Lauder said, tough times equate to a higher [...]
The whole Duggar family is no stranger to the limelight. They have been featured on TV, magazines, newspapers and every member of the family is used to the coverage. Last year, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar announced that they were expecting their 19th child. Naturally, they were once again exposed to publicity.

We’re right smack in the middle of the Winter Olympics. Have your kids gotten into the spirit of it all yet? It saddens me that today, some kids would rather play sports via the PlayStation (or any other gaming console) than actually go outdoors and kick some butt. With the Winter Olympics [...]
Every house has a first aid kit. That is basic knowledge. But do you have an emergency kit that will help keep you alive just in case you experience a natural disaster? At this point, many families in the Philippines are creating their own disaster emergency kits, if they haven’t got one [...]
