Holiday shopping tips
With Thanksgiving over we’re heading off to more season of spending. Christmas by far is the most expensive season ever. We’ve all seen the Black Friday rush… boy, you wait for the Christmas rush… it’ll be huge. Starting with Christmas decors, people these days are spending a lot of cash on pre-Christmas, Christmas and post-Christmas items. If you want your wallets to survive… or your credit cards to breath between swipes, let me share with you a few items that I personally found helpful.
Tip 1 : make a budget list, and check it twice – AVOID impulse buying… sit down, think it over and actually make a list you will swear by to follow. If you suddenly have an “urge” to get something off-list, make a promise to wait 20 minutes, walk around the mall. See if you forget it or see if you can walk away from it.
Tip 2 : do your research – honestly. There are many ways to save. Stores have pre-Christmas coupons so make sure you get the Sunday papers to hunt for them. If someone is passing out flyers, get them. There may be a great deal in those too.
Tip 3 : shop co-op – shop with someone, you get to cover more ground PLUS you have a buddy to pull you away just in case the temptation is too great.
More tips to come tomorrow… hang in there! 🙂
Your Carbon Footprint
What is your carbon footprint? Hmm… ok, let’s start over… What is a carbon footprint?
A carbon footprint is a “measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide“.
Here’s a nifty tool from ivillage.com, an online calculator to measure carbon footprints. I think this is just the right time, hoping it’s not too late, to take a clear and determined look at how our lifestyles are affecting the environment. Isn’t it just responsible to keep this planet liveable for the generations to come?
Aside from the i-village link above you can also visit www.carbonfootprint.com for more documentation, tools and networks. That website has online tools to measure your carbon footprint AND has several pages and suggestions regarding your carbon offsets.
Carbon Offsets! Whaz that again? Sorry. Carbon offsets are your determined ways to reduce your carbon contribution to the environment. It’s your go-green plan! Check out that site, there are tons of ways you choose from to go-green at home, in the office… everywhere!
Water me please
This is wise living.
I keep picturing this scene from Music and Lyrics where Hugh Grant (playing an 80’s singer Alex Fletcher) hires Drew Barimore (as Sophie Fisher, who plays as plant caretaker) to water his apartment plants. Obviously, Alex doesn’t care less what time his plants are fed and just keeps it for the “girls” so to say.
Well, for the Alex Fletcher’s out there, here’s a terrrific idea to consider. While I myself would take on any Sophie Fisher over this gadget, chances may be too slim to find one… even by accident.
Your solution… THE THIRSTY LIGHT
A simple gadget that addresses a simple need. It tells you when you need to water your plants.
It has a Drypoint digital circuit that continuosly monitors conditions and tests the moisture level in the soil once per second. It’s simple to use too, because it has no gauges or complicated readouts, just a blinking light telling you to add water.
Gossip and Slander: Verbal Cannibalism
I used to have strong notions against women from my country marrying men from another country. I would always second-guess their motives, and I had such a bigoted notion about interracial marriage. Today, I came across this article, and I was struck about a couple of things about my culture that had been disappointing me lately, and I am struggling to overcome.
