One win over the paparazzi

October 1, 2008 By Jim

Actress Sienna Miller has won a case against a paparazzi photo published in the Daily Star.  This photo was taken when she was waiting for an elevator in an LA building.  The court ruled that Ms. Miller was clearly harassed and so therefore has decided in favor of Ms. Miller, this decision after viewing a video tape showing the actress as nearly in tears because of this incident.  The photo was published early September.

In addition to the out-of -court settlement, the Daily Star printed an apology, saying it accepted that she was “extremely harassed and distressed by persistent pursuit and intimidating tactics” adopted by the paparazzi.

“We apologize to Sienna for publishing this photograph,” the paper added.

This incident quickly brings the memory of Princess Diana.  Wondering really why she had to live a life filled with paparazzi behind her every move, sometimes anticipating her every move.  Sure, I know you’d say she’s more than a celebrity… but she didn’t have to die that way too.

But I do like it when someone tries and succeeds at protecting their civil rights to space and privacy.
