What Does a School’s Social Media Activity Indicate?

March 11, 2023 By Teresa M

Social media platforms are commonly used by students, but how about schools?  Apparently many colleges and universities are catching up  since more activity has been observed in various social media including Facebook, Twitter, Google +, Pinterest, YouTube, and Klout.  Schools have been generally holding off complete acceptance of social media in relation to school activities for quite some time but as more and more advantages are seen, full integration of social media into the educational system may just come earlier than expected.

Those who are already using social media in their school system cite several reasons why they think it is a positive step.  Professional development, community outreach, distance learning, parent communication, creation of course assignments, cross-cultural communication, networking, and collaborative learning are just some of the possible benefits of incorporating social media with university study.  Some see a school’s active participation in social media as an indicator of over-all quality probably to the extent of the school’s readiness and capacity to to adopt to new trends and technology.  That remains to be seen.
