How to Eat to Have Healthy Teeth

May 30, 2011 By David Jones

There are many ways of keeping your teeth and gums strong and healthy. Visiting your dentist on a regular basis is vital, for those of you in the Dallas region you can check this list of Dallas dentists. We already know that foods can destroy teeth. Think about sodas, candies, cakes, and chocolates. But do you know that there are certain foods that can actually make your teeth healthier?

Take for example the juicy and crunchy fruits and vegetables like apples, pears, and carrots. Munching on them will at the same time brush and wash your teeth. These foods have high water content that dilutes sugar and stimulate saliva production. In fact, one of Catherine Zeta Jones’s ways to keep her teeth sparkly clean is eating an apple after every meal. Who would have thought that an apple a day can also keep the dentist away? Milk, nuts, chicken, and cheeses are also protectors of tooth enamel. How? They provide calcium and phosphorus that are necessary to redeposit minerals in the tooth enamel. Drinking water is known to be beneficial for the teeth. But what’s more beneficial is the fluoridated water.

Surprisingly, tea is on the list of teeth-friendly drinks. It may stain the teeth but it also contains fluoride that promotes healthier teeth. Just don’t add sweetener to it or it will not be beneficial anymore. Eating teeth-friendly foods can sure keep your precious teeth healthy. But still, nothing beats proper care for them like brushing teeth after every meal, flossing once a day, and changing toothbrush every three months. And don’t forget the most important of all—visit your dentist regularly.
