All families need a real getaway. A family needs to hit the road and make memories. Do you go to a theme park or the beach? Do you go to the zoo or just go to the coast and hang out? What about if you believe that mom and dad need some fun too? If your idea of fun involves some time spent chasing a little white ball around great expanses of green grass, how can you tie that to your family vacation?
The Magic Kingdom
“We are going to Disney World” can be yelled across the breakfast table to your sleepy-eyed progeny. In the eruption of happy shouts and dancing, you can dance a little too! Yes, you’ll be standing in line to ride the rides with the gang, but you’ll also have a shot at playing a great course or two. Magnolia, previously a PGA Tour course, will offer you a challenge, yet still provide reasonable play for your kids. Disney Saratoga Springs or Oak Trail are close and offer good family fun for all. All that and you are in Orlando, so there are a bevy of additional options for family fun.
La Costa California
A world-class golf destination, with excellent opportunities for the whole family, Lacosta features two magnificent courses, both having been PGA courses. Both courses have recently been renovated, and the courses are family-friendly and feature exceptional accommodations for full family play. When you step off the links, the excitement is just beginning. In the vicinity of La Costa, you will find some of the best California has to offer, great dining, entertainment, Sea World, and Legoland.
Boyne Resorts in Michigan
With multiple golf courses within an hours drive, Boyne provides all the golf you and your family can handle. Boyne has outstanding programs for children, offering summer camps and courses that favor youngsters. Water fun is available on the multitude of lakes in the area of the courses.
Kapalua, Maui
Three courses are in the area of the town of Kapalua. Two, the Plantation course and the Bay course, offer some of the most exceptional golf in the world, and likely the best in the islands. Kapalua is home to a tour of Champions PGA Tour event and has all the amenities to match. The kids will have the opportunity to take advantage of the Maui lifestyle. Sun, surf, and sand then go inland, and there is a ton of stuff to do: horseback riding, zip lining, and hiking the island – your kids will be as worn out as you are.
Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho
You may not think of Idaho as a destination for golf, but with the headlining Coeur d’Alene Resort, this is an area to reckon with. There are two incredible private courses in the area, and the fantastic Circling Raven Course just a short drive away. Bring your rangefinder for the Prairie Falls course. For the family, the area has one of the most beautiful lakes you will see. Fishing, boat rides, and a short drive to Silverwood – an amusement park – will keep you and the kids busy when you are not on the course.
