New PS3 update brings DTS-HD capabilities

April 16, 2008 By Lorraine Marie

Sony recently released the 2.30 software update for the Playstation 3, probably one of the most anticipated updates for the resurgent console. The new update will finally allow the PS3 to decode DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio. This will allow users to finally enjoy their Blu-ray discs with studio quality HD audio.
The ability to read this new audio format is what PS3 users who bought the console to play HD video have been waiting for. According to a PS3 users I know, the new update now gives him a true HD experience because the HD level visuals are completed by an equally high quality sonic experience. The new format is supposedly identical to the studio masters. Of course, you can only really experience this if you have the appropriate home theater setup in your recreation room, which a growing number of homes possess.
An additional improvement in update 2.30 is the ability to access the revamped Playstation store. The PSN store has transitioned from being an online storefront into a natively residing application on the console. This allows users to have an easier time in locating and purchasing various items, download demos, game videos, Blu-ray trailers and other content.
