Warner Bros, in an attempt to halt “rampant” movie piracy, has cancelled all its preview screenings in Canada. The Hollywood company has stopped all “promotional and word-of-mouth screenings” of new releases.
The studio has blamed the Canadian government for not making camcording illegal in movie theaters.
“We regret having to cancel our screenings in Canada,” a spokesperson for Warner Bros commented.
“But our studio must take steps to protect not only our branded assets, but our commitment to film-makers and to our distributors.”
