Does Anyone Still Care about The Emmy Awards?

May 10, 2023 By Marie F

Does anyone still care about the Emmy Awards? As Sunday’s awards show wound down, the viewers, or lack thereof, sparked speculation that perhaps the Emmys aren’t all that they used to be. But why? Is it because of the sheer massive amount of different television shows on the airwaves these days that people just can’t keep up? Is it an outdated institution? Or has it always been overrated?

The Emmys were originally created in 1949. The first Emmy was handed out at the Hollywood Athletic Club, and the award was meant to honor shows that only broadcast in the Los Angeles region. Today the Emmy is considered to be the equivalent of the Academy Awards in movies and the Grammys in music. In the 1950s, the Academy of Arts and Sciences expanded the awards show and allowed shows that were broadcast national to vie for the golden statuette. The competition grew, and so did the exclusivity of the Emmy award itself. The Emmy Award shows have split themselves into several different categories, but the most prominent is the Primetime Emmys. Television royalty walks the red carpet around mid-September every year to see if they will leave with the coveted statuette. [Read more…]

HBO, The Emmies and Big Love’s Bill Paxton

May 9, 2023 By Marie F

HBO has never failed to produce awesome TV series let alone those Emmy Award winning entries and nominations that undoubtedly have kept their audiences hanging by the edge of their seats for each and every succeeding episode. Most recently, HBO swept the Emmies with The Pacific. A companion piece to another much awarded series from nine years ago, Band of Brothers.

Both mini-series tell of a specific company of troopers and their endless agonizing days of war seemingly compared to being hell on earth. Band of Brothers focused on a company of paratroopers from the 101st Airborne Division and how they survived each significant historical battle from D Day to Germany, Holland and Belgium. From the time Band of Brothers aired on HBO, war veterans in the Pacific and even the loved ones of fallen soldiers banged on the doors of producers Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks to tell of what happened on the other side of the world. Both mini series proved to be well worth the costs it took to produce them with Band of Brothers pegging at 120million dollars and The Pacific rolling in with production costs of 200 million dollars. One can never look at war in just one big picture. It is in these mini-series that we come to realize the real stories of war from the perspective of small companies of fighters that have braved each battle field.

Looking at a different page on HBO’s list of award winning series, Big Love has definitely stirred many minds about its plot. The controversy of Polygamy centered on the life of a fictional fundamentalist Mormon family in Utah. It took 3 years of research to create a fair portrayal of polygamy in America since it still lurks in the shadows even after the state took over one of the most prolific polygamist community in the US. The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint ( FLDS) ceased to be in 2005 even though it is the legitimate successor of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Big Love stars Bill Paxton who makes an interesting character of a man with 3 wives with whom he managed to agree to live right next to each other ,each wife and respective children are expected to dine in one table as one big loving family. However disturbing the premise of the story is, it opens the viewers mind to different ways to love and how big a word it can be. As much as the producers aim to widen the viewers perspective, LDS Church thinks the series shows preoccupation with sex, coarse humour and foul language. Errr…. what show on TV does not in any way shape size or form depict all of the above.? Was it because the show had an episode where Bill Paxton’s character fell ill due to his abuse with Viagra to keep up with his 3 wives ? Would you blame him though? Ha! Clearly, the show touches on many real issues in life and in love. Sadly enough, many are still too prude to deal with it in real time.

HBO channels are readily accessible through Comcast bundles , But if you’re looking for Internet and TV bundles, Comcast bundle deals online provide you with ease of use together with a super great Internet and TV bundle with which you can use to search and download movies and other series.

Tweet Emmy Intros to Jimmy Fallon

May 9, 2023 By Marie F

When Jimmy Fallon takes the stage this Sunday night to host the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards, you can Tweet suggestions for his on-camera introductions of the show’s celebrity presenters. Fallon and his staff will pick their favorites from the suggestions and he’ll use them on the show.

Fallon has used this tactic on his late-night show before, usually to very funny results. Plus, it gives fans at home a deeper investment in the goings-on when they Tweet something from their living room and five minutes later it’s on live television, going out to millions of people. Jimmy Fallon has always been the most tech-savvy late-night talk show host, having embraced gadgetry and social media from the very beginning of his run on NBC‘s Late Night.

To submit your introduction suggestions to Fallon & Co. for the Emmys, just Tweet your line using the hashtag “#imontheemmys” or visit nbc.com/imontheemmys. The site will also show other fans’ submissions and the full list of presenters.

Emmys award Modern Family, Mad Men

May 9, 2023 By Marie F

New hit comedy Modern Family took home three major statues last night at the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards (bringing the show’s overall total to six). But in the other categories, Emmy voters selected winners that were all-too-predictable.

Hopes were dashed for Lost to win for its final season, and major favorite Glee took home only two awards — one for actress Jane Lynch and one for show creator Ryan Murphy’s direction of the pilot. The big winner was HBO with eight total awards (most for miniseries Temple Grandin), followed by AMC with four (which was awarded for Mad Men), and three each for ABC and CBS.

But when you add in the awards given out at the Creative Arts Emmys last week, the totals stack up a little differently. HBO is still in first place with 25 total awards, but ABC is second with 18, followed by Fox with 11, CBS with 10, and NBC with 8.

Totals for shows look like this: 8 for HBO’s The Pacific, 7 for HBO’s Temple Grandin, 6 for ABC’s Modern Family, and 4 each for Disney’s Prep & Landing, Glee, and Mad Men.

The complete list of winners is after the jump.
