Really amusing isn’t it?  This is an actual hotel room, “capsule sized”, in Japan.  For busy tourists who would just like a clean place to rest and sleep, have minimal baggage/suitcase, this may be the solution.  Every capsule is made of fiber glass, dimensions are 2m x 1.25m x 1.

Facilities range in entertainment offerings (most include a television, an electronic console, and wireless internet connection). These capsules are stacked side by side and two units top to bottom, with steps providing access to the second level rooms. Luggage is stored in a locker, usually somewhere outside of the hotel. Privacy is ensured by a curtain or a fibreglass door at the open end of the capsule. Washrooms are communal and most hotels include restaurants, or at least vending machines, pools, and other entertainment facilities. – from wikipedia

I’d like to see this in America!  But I’m guessing it wouldn’t be as popular as it is in Japan.  I think Americans want the space, a lot of them, to move around.
