One of filmmaking’s greats passed away a few days ago. The great Jules Dassin left us following a short bout with an undisclosed illness.
The 96 year old Dassin has been living in Athens, Greece. He is well known for his award winning movie Never on Sunday. Of course, he also well known for such great noir classics like Rififi, Thieves’ Highway, and Night and The City.
Dassin started out as an actor and producer but had his break assisting Alfred Hitchcock in 1940. His storied life included having to live in France in the 1950s because of accusations that he was part of the communist faction during the infamous Un-American Activities Committee Hearing in the House of Representatives.
