It’s 09-09-09 today. September 9, 2009. It only comes around once in a blue moon, and people are making the most of this occurrence. Logically speaking, there really is nothing special about this day. That has not stopped people from at least making a remark about it (check your Facebook and count how many of your friends have 090909 on their status!). Some even go as far as using the date for marketing and promotion activities.
According to numerologists, the number 9 is special. It is the last single digit, and is associated with certain things. On the one hand, we have compassion, forgiveness, and success. On the other hand, we have arrogance and self-righteousness.
There is also this fascinating symmetry about the number 9. Let’s go back to math class and do a couple of exercises. I think I am going to get a little lost here so let’s quote Heather Whipps from LiveScience:
Any grade-schooler could tell you, for example, that the sum of the two-digits resulting from nine multiplied by any other single-digit number will equal nine. So 9×3=27, and 2+7=9.
Multiply nine by any two, three or four-digit number and the sums of those will also break down to nine. For example: 9×62 = 558; 5+5+8=18; 1+8=9.
Sept. 9 also happens to be the 252nd day of the year (2 + 5 +2)…
Fascinating, huh?
Of course, there is the issue of luck. Just like with the number 13, some cultures consider 9 to be lucky while others consider it to be bad luck. I don’t know what to believe, or if I can actually believe in any of these. All I know is that today is indeed a unique day and that I am going to enjoy it despite the horrible weather! Got any special plans for today?
