After taking on such iconic characters as Iron Man and the soon to be released Sherlock Holmes later this year, Robert Downey, Jr. is now set to take on a character that is surprising to say the least.
According to reports, there are plans to reboot Anne Rice’s ultra popular Vampire Chronicles and Universal Pictures is eyeing Downey to play Lestat.
Movie buffs will remember that Tom Cruise played Lestat in Interview with The Vampire, while Stuart Townsend played the character in The Queen of The Damned.
Downey is a great actor, probably one of the top real talents working right now but I think he’s a little too old to play Lestat. Tom Cruise was already a bit old to play Lestat and that was in 1994 when he was still young.
I’m also curious which among the remaining novels will be made into a movie or if the studio will start with the first novel again since it is going to be a reboot anyway.
Downey to play Sherlock Holmes
Great news for Robert Downey, Jr. fans! The erstwhile Iron Man star has committed to star in a movie about Sherlock Homes that will be directed by Guy Ritchie.
Downey has already given his agreement to star in the movie, which began production in October. A newly polished script from Anthony Peckham has already been submitted to the studio so this movie is going smoothly at this point.
This is going to be a more straight-forward interpretation of Holmes compared to the other Sherlock Holmes movie that is being developed by Columbia Pictures. This movie is going to be a comedy with Sacha Baron Cohen playing the role of Holmes and Will Ferrell playing his sidekick. Dr. Watson.
Iron Man sequel set
“Strike while the iron is hot” seems to have been taken to heart by Marvel Studios as plans have already been revealed for the Iron Man sequel.
According to an article that came out in Military.com, Terrence Howard (who plays Col. James Rhodes in the movie) spilled that he will start filming for Iron Man 2 starting March 2009. Of course, not only will Howard return but also director Jon Favreau and the uber-cool Robert Downey, Jr. Gwyneth Paltrow is also set to return. The expected release of the movie is April 30, 2010.
Tony Stark fans won’t have to wait almost two years before they see their favorite hero on screen. Just watch the upcoming Incredible Hulk to see a cool Tony Stark cameo with Robert Downey Jr. himself.
Tropic Thunder trailer now available
I’ve been hearing a lot about Ben Stiller’s new comedy Tropic Thunder. First time I heard about it was during the unfortunate suicide attempt of Owen Wilson when it was announced that he had to drop out of the said movie. Next thing I hear the movie’s already finished and finally, the new trailer is now available!
The movie revolves around the making of a “Vietnam” movie and the hilarity that ensues. Special props has to be given to Robert Downey, Jr. and his character — a white actor who decides to play black soldier. Some people are already calling it racist but all I have to say is chill out people.
Ben Stiller stars and directs the movie and also stars Jack Black, Nick Nolte, Brandon Jackson and Steve Coogan. Also expect a cameo from Tom Cruise.
