Of Avatar’s 3 comic lines based on New Line Cinema horror franchises (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), I honestly think that Nightmare on Elm Street came out looking the best. Despite my preference towards Friday the 13th, I must admit that the Nightmare on Elm Street mythos leaves much more room for deeper story-telling and disturbing kills. This mini picked up where the events of Freddy vs. Jason left off, with Freddy trying to weasel his way back into the minds of the children of Springwood. The kills had been quite good, though the story wasn’t paced particularly well. The ending took the concept used in so many Nightmare on Elm Street movies (bringing Freddy into reality) but made it work far better than before. The solution actually feels like it should work. The ending is a bit of a rip-off/homage to the ending of the first and second films, so it won’t excite you much. In the end, this series will only appeal to the horror fans of the world, but the horror fans are in for a serious treat.
