“Ash vs. Dracula part 1”. Hot damn, the Army of Darkness comic is actually GOOD!? After years of mediocre story-telling, recycled dialogue and gags, overly-cartoonish art and serious wasted potential (Army of Darkness vs. Re-Animator was a crime), the Army of Darkness comic has finally become something worth reading. The “Old School” arc was a short, transitioning piece to step away from the aspects of the previous issues and set-up this next arc and the future story-telling style. Ash vs. Dracula is just that, Ash fighting Dracula and his minions. This issue puts a far bit of focus on both Ash and Dracula, as Ash travels the countryside like a heavily armed Kolchak the Nightstalker. He heads out west with his girlfriend to investigate a so-called “Vampire Virus” and comes in contact with Dracula’s army of the night. Dracula spent the issue amassing werewolves, mummies and a Frankenstein monster for his forces. This arc is really gearing-up for something good.
