More gorgeous Alex Ross art. The story’s sort’ve kind’ve shaping up into something coherent. We know the villains are out to do something bad, anyway. Honestly, the major draw of this book is going to be the Alex Ross artwork, and I must say, it is, in a single word, “breathtaking”. There’s a two-page spread of the interior of the Fortress of Solitude which is just magnificent. There’s a big spotlight on Aquaman and his recovery from Brainiac’s brain-surgery. Another portion focuses on the rescue of the Flash by Superman and Captain Marvel. That was probably my favorite part of the issue. Overall, this book is pure eye-candy but I probably won’t be able to fully appreciate the story until I’ve read all the issues in a span shorter than 2 years.
