An anthology issue collecting 3 stories and 10 (!) pin-ups, not to mention an old-school cover by Peter Laird. The first story, “Kung Fu Theater” is some classic Ninja Turtle action as the TMNT battle some Foot Soldiers in a movie theater attended by two rival martial arts schools. A fun story, though Jim Lawson’s art detracts from much of it. “My Hero” is a cute story taking place in the TMNT’s early years. The story revolves around Splinter trying to teach his sons Japanese calligraphy. It’s a neat story, I always enjoy the “flashback” tales which show how Splinter raised the turtles as his children. The last story, “The Doors of Deception” continues the quest of Professor Oobligado, in search of the original homeworld of the Utrom race. It’s short, though the ending does pique ones interest. The pin-ups are a mixed bag, though mostly quite good. The Usagi Yojimbo/TMNT pin-up by Stan Sakai is my favorite. All-in-all, another good issue. Hopefully, Tales can keep it up, as its all TMNT fans are going to get until the new movie comes out next year (TMNT Vol. 4 is on hiatus until the movie is released).
