“Lightning in a Bottle part 1: Flashback”.Ă‚Â Well, the next chapter in the saga of the Flash has just begun, spinning out of the Infinite Crisis.Ă‚Â The all-grown-up Kid Flash, Bart Allen, has retired and begun working at an automobile plant.Ă‚Â Most of the older employees have been laid off and replaced by machinery, resulting in a nasty strike.Ă‚Â Central City and Keystone City are currently being protected by the original Flash, Jay Garrick.Ă‚Â After the destruction of the Speed Force, Jay managed to hold onto some of his super-speed due to his meta-human gene, but Bart supposedly lost all his powers.Ă‚Â Well, that may not be the case.Ă‚Â Bart discovers he can tap into the Speed Force, but doing so might kill him.Ă‚Â
Overall, it was an “okay” start. Griffen, Bart’s party-animal roommate, is totally obnoxious. Bart’s “woe is me” emo-shtick isn’t winning him any friends, either. And, additionally, the concept of super-speed killing the Flash whenever he uses it was already done back in the 80’s with the original Kid Flash, Wally West. So it’s all just re-treading old territory. Still, this is supposed to serve as an introductory issue, hopefully setting up a good story to come. So I’ll cut it a little slack.
