Well, this series took its sweet time hitting the shelves, but now that it’s out, I can’t help but feel a slight disappointment. The art’s gorgeous and the gore is intense, but the story takes a few hits due to this being a prequel to the movie (the remake, to be precise). So you know, in the end, nothing is going to happen to any member of the Hewitt family, as they HAVE to survive unscathed in order to show-up in the movie. The most satisfying parts of the Texas Chainsaw movies, aside from the gore and torture sequences, are the endings where the victims take revenge on the killers. Well, you know right from the beginning, that’s not gonna happen. SO you’ve just got to enjoy the book for its kills and nothing more. So far, the kills have been good, but nothing we haven’t seen before in any of the films (Leatherface wearing someone’s skin, chainsaw’s to the face, etc). I’m afraid this series isn’t impressing me as much as Avatar’s Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street titles.
