Transformers: Spotlight #2

October 18, 2006 By Spengs

“Nightbeat”.  One of the most popular characters who never appeared in the cartoon series, Nightbeat garnered a healthy fanbase thanks to Simon Furman and the old Marvel Transformers comic.  I’ve always liked Nightbeat, too, as he’s funny, clever and the whole detective-schtick is endlessly entertaining.  Great seeing him again.  His quest in this issue to uncover the truth behind the disappearance of the *first* Ark is interesting, though all it serves to do is set up some future plot in another IDW Transformers comic.  The story is a great hard-boiled crime noire tale: perfect for Nightbeat.  Unfortunately, the art is downright atrocious, particularly Optimus Prime at the very end.  Still, aside from some bad art, a grat story and a great character.
