Hair, or specifically, hair loss is a common concern for many people. According to the Mayo Clinic, most people lose about 50 to 100 hairs a day. However, when a person begins to lose their hair because of hormonal factors, medical conditions, or medications, people become increasingly concerned about hair loss as it is possible to lose substantially more than 50 to 100 hairs a day. That being said, technology has played an important role in how people style their hair, and recent discoveries have even suggested that stimulating hair growth is possible.
Hair Styling Technology
Aside from curling irons and flat irons, products that have been around for some time, most people do not realize that those instruments are not the only technology available for hair styling. There are companies that specialize in natural human hair products, and these companies create wigs and other hair additions which are often used on runway models to create the bold, stunning looks that match the outfits.
Unlike most wigs, which look terrible because they are made from synthetic, poorly constructed hair, these companies use natural hair that is colored gradually to preserve its texture. Additionally, each strand of hair is individually sewn to the cap for precision and a natural look. If hair is an important part of a woman’s fashion collection, she might be intrigued by the simplicity and artful beauty of these pieces.
Medical Advances
There have also been recent advances in overall hair growth technology. According to George Cotsarelis, MD, chair of Dermatology in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, a protein produced by a population of cells of the immune system in the skin, known as fibroblast growth factor 9 (Fgf9), is responsible for the production of new hair follicles. This indicates a molecular mechanism is involved, and thereby it can be therapeutically boosted to increase the chances of new hair growth.
Cotsarelis’ study found that there is an increase in Fgf9 after a skin wound, as the cells regenerate the missing layers of skin, as well as new hair follicles. With this in mind, the scientist conducted a study in order to show that increasing Fgf9 could stimulate the production of new hair follicles. While the information surrounding the study has not yet been fully released, the results of the study have been published.
Many people worry about hair loss and how it will affect them if it happens to them. However, with advances in technology, that concern may not be one people worry about for long. There are companies that produce the best hair accessories to enhance a woman’s style, and each can be tailored to her specific desires.
Going one step further is the scientific discovery of a protein that could potentially be the cure for hair loss. Scientists involved with the study postulated that protein Fgf9 is responsible for hair follicle growth, and by increasing the amount of that protein, the chances for new hair follicle growth also increased. The discovery is still in its nascent stages, but it looks promising enough to be considered a possible solution to common hair loss problems.
