Idaho mother ticketed for spanking child

July 22, 2008 By Jim

Hot off the newspress… a mother is under investigation due to an alleged injury sustained by her child.  Witnesses have testified that during the recent 4th of July parade, they allegedly saw Melissa Farrell “too harsh” in spanking her 2-year old daughter.

Police Capt. Ron Clark said that Farrell was issued a citation after eight witnesses signed sworn statements.  Their statements included sentences such as “They described it as she was slamming her on the ground and smothering her as she was holding her.”

Officials in 1st District Court said Wednesday the paperwork had not been processed and that Farrell had not been charged with a crime.

“It will be up to the judge to decide whether that action that was committed was a crime or not,” Clark said.

The officer who issued the citation reported no visible signs of injury to the child, he added.

Farrell denied the charges and have said that she will not discipline her child according to the values of another person.
