After the tumultuous reign of Miss USA 2006 Tara Conner that almost saw her dethroned, the now newly-crowned Miss New Jersey (for Miss America – not to confused with Miss USA) Amy Palumbo is now in hot water after publicly announcing that she is currently made victim in an elaborate blackmail and extortion scheme. A still unnamed individual has allegedly threatened the beauty queen that he will release potentially damaging images of Palumbo is she doesn’t give up her crown at the soonest possible time.
When asked about the nature of the photos, Palumbo and her lawyers explained that the images do not feature any kind of nudity adding that the swimsuit that she wore for the pageant was even more revealing. The captions that accompany the photographs are ‘disgusting’. One could only guess as to what the pictures hold, but at this point, it’s surely causing all sorts of strain with the Miss America pageant drawing near.
The Wagner College student is not the first woman to be ever implicated in a scandal involving potentially damaging pictures.
In 2002, Miss Rebekah Revels from North Carolina gave up her crown after being threatened by an ex-boyfriend that he will release topless photos of her. Vanessa Williams, Miss America 1984 was forced to resign after getting her nude pictures published in adult men’s magazine. Fortunately both women though, they have definitely battled their demons and bounced back. Revels became Miss USA-World a couple of years after her ordeal while Williams is of course a well-known actress and pop star.
One has think, are there really nasty pictures to begin with? Or is Amy Palumbo just hungry for media mileage?
