What’s Hanging In Your Closet?

October 21, 2014 By Teresa

It seems like there are new fashion trends each season. Whether it’s in clothing or accessories, you will often find a new design or color as the years go by, making shopping for new fashions fun. The 2014 fall and winter season will be the biggest yet in bold patterns and blended colors.

The skinny jean will be something that you want in your closet. This is a jean that hugs the legs and looks beautiful with long sweaters and tops. Boots will complete the outfit, or you can wear a flat shoe with the jeans. Another trend this year will be the cowgirl look. This is a style that has taken a break for a few years, but it will be back in full force in 2014. If you don’t want the complete look, then consider western embroidery on a collared blouse or jacket. Lace mixed with cutouts in jeans will also be a standout, especially black lace. Cowboy boots with heels and fringe will be the perfect shoe for any cowgirl outfit. [Read more…]

Getting A New Look On The Cheap

December 30, 2010 By Sally

mix-match-B-1Living in a place that has four seasons has its perks, but it also has its downsides. With each change of season, our wardrobes have to be updated as well. While this can be an exciting thing, it is definitely not easy on one’s wallet. Then again, there are some things that you can do to spruce up that wardrobe of yours without really spending a lot.

Have you ever thought of recycling? If you recycle aluminum cans, tires, and other things, why not clothes? And speaking of recycling, maybe you can use the other “R” – reuse.

The idea is to find people who think just like you and organize a little “auction.” Here’s the plan.

Talk to several of your friends who have similar tastes in fashion. It is important that they have similar figures and sizes as you do.

Agree on what kinds of clothes and accessories each person should bring. Perhaps you can be specific about the items that they should bring – the number of tops, skirts, pants, etc. You can even ask your friends to bring food and drinks; you might as well have some fun while you’re are it.

During the auction-party, open each item to bidding. So that you won’t have to spend a dime, use the items that you brought as the “currency.” You can make up the rules as you wish. The bottom line is that all of the participants can get a new piece of clothing (or two) without spending any money!

Got The Blues? Get Some Hues!

January 24, 2010 By Sally

Did you know that sales figures show (consistently) that during a bad economic period, more cosmetic products are sold than usual? These figures also show that after a tragedy occurs in an area, sales also increase.

What can we gather from this information? Just as Leonard Lauder said, tough times equate to a higher demand for beauty products. If that name sounds familiar, it is because the guy is the chairman of Estee Lauder, perhaps one of the most known brands in the beauty industry.

While you may not be experiencing really tough economic times or you may not be facing tragic circumstances, you might find yourself feeling a bit low. Call it the blues if you will, but the fact remains that prettifying yourself when you’re not feeling so good helps tons!

How can you prettify yourself on a bad day?

Put some makeup on! You may not be the type to use makeup but give it a try and you just might see the difference. Start simple – it doesn’t have to be a full blown thing. Put some bright lipstick on. Use an eye liner. Put some blush.

Dress up! You don’t have to wear a dress, but try something different. If you don’t normally wear a dress, why not get one and just try? Oh, and dump black and other earth colors. Try a bright shade of purple or yellow or orange or red – or maybe a mix of colors.

The bottom line is to find an overall look that you will be comfortable with. At the end of the day, you’ll not only look good, you’ll also feel better!
