4 Industries That Don’t Think They Need SEO (But Do)

October 2, 2014 By Sally

Do you really need search engine optimization (SEO) if you’re not in that competitive of a market? What if you manage a business that offers sweat lodge retreats in a part of the country where you’re the only sweat lodge for hundreds of miles? Unfortunately, many businesses think it’s pointless to budget for SEO because they don’t see how it fits in with their strategy. Every single website, business, or person with an online presence will benefit from SEO, but there are a few fields which are particularly stubborn when it comes to opting out.

Proper SEO will benefit the business/website as well as those who visit it. Remember the point of SEO: To make sure the best matches between people and websites are made. It’s kind of the eHarmony of web browsing, going beyond the surface to look at qualities that make good “matches” between sites and users.

Here are some of the biggest industries that don’t think they need SEO, but actually do: [Read more…]

Why You Need to Dig Deeper Into Google to Find a Business

September 8, 2014 By Sally

As a consumer, you may not know much about search engine optimization (SEO). It refers to a set of best practices that gets certain businesses to the top of search engine results when people like you type in keywords.

For example, if you Google “physical therapist Houston,” there will obviously be a set number of results on the first page of Google. Studies have shown that almost nobody looks beyond the first page, and not that many people check out more than the top five results.

However, just because a hit comes up at the top (or even on the first page) doesn’t mean it’s necessarily the best result for you. It might not even link you to the “best” in terms of positive reviews and satisfied customers.

Instead, these top results are decided by whichever company has the best SEO. This includes quality, organic content with the right keyword density, positive links (especially those with authority), and a lot of techie know how.

Businesses that know how to work SEO reap the benefits, but what about consumers? [Read more…]

Google Nexus One Owners Frustrated With Service

January 13, 2010 By Sally

By now, you have probably heard about the “real iPhone killer.” Technology giant Google has been dabbling in the mobile phone market in the recent years and the release of their Nexus One phone has got technophiles all over the world really excited. Yours truly is actually thinking of getting her hands on one within the month. In the past three days, all I have been doing is looking up information on the Nexus One.

Today, I started having second thoughts about getting a unit as early as now. Google released the phone just last week, and they have full control over the sales. Unlike before when they would sell phone through a mobile carrier, Google mainly distributes the Nexus One online: www.google.com/phone. While this means that anyone in the US can buy a unit without having to pay for a mobile phone service plan, it seems that the early birds are having problems regarding technical support.

The main issue, apparently, is that many users cannot use 3G on their Nexus Ones. Now this is a BIG problem as 3G is necessary to access the Internet and other related services at a reasonable speed. Users report that neither T-Mobile nor HTC (the phone’s manufacturer) has been able to help. That leaves Google, which does not seem to have the support infrastructure set up.

Another complaint is that the online purchasing set up is too impersonal. Some users have been looking for something more detailed, letting them know exactly what is going on with their order. This doesn’t bother me as much as the 3G issue, which just might “make” me wait for a few months more.
