Aaron Sorkin is Back In the Game

February 1, 2011 By Marie F

Celebrated writer of The West Wing, and more recently the hit film The Social Network, Aaron Sorkin is finally returning to TV. HBO has given a pilot order to his latest brainchild, More As the Story Develops, which follows the cast and crew of a fictional nightly cable news show. Sorkin’s Social Network producer, Scott Rudin, is executive producing.

Sorkin reportedly spent time at CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News to research for his new show. In addition to The West Wing, he also created Sports Night for ABC and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip for NBC. This will mark his first attempt at cable television.

There’s no word yet on casting for More As the Story Develops or when it might debut on HBO.

HBO Planning Wikileaks Film

January 24, 2011 By Marie F

Is there anyone in the world more controversial than Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks? Perhaps the President could qualify, but I don’t think there’s anyone as notorious and severely divisive as Assange.

HBO is pretty much thinking the same thing, because they’ve just put an Assange biopic into development alongside the BBC that will be based on a New Yorker article from June of last year. Raffi Khatchadourian, author of the article, spent time following Assange as he and WikiLeaks worked to leak a classified video filmed inside the cockpit of an Army helicopter. Presumably, part of the film would depict this scenario for the tension-filled, high-stakes work it is.

The untitled movie will be executive produced by Joshua Maurer and Alixandre Witlin of City Entertainment, and David Stern of KippSter Entertainment, who owns the film rights to Khatchadourian’s article.

Inside Game of Thrones

Winter Is Coming

November 29, 2010 By Marie F

HBO has just premiered this new trailer for its upcoming fantasy series Game of Thrones. The series is based on the “A Song of Fire and Ice” novels by George R. R. Martin, which HBO describes as “the Sopranos in Middle Earth.” The novels are set in a land called Westeros, where the royal family struggles with enemies and one another for power. The tagline “Winter is Coming” has been used repeatedly by HBO in promotion of the series; this is because “summers span decades and winters can last a lifetime” in Westeros.

HBO coming to iPad

August 19, 2010 By Marie F

The good news: It won’t cost existing HBO subscribers anything extra.

The bad news: You’ve got to wait another six months.

“HBO Go” is the name of the pay-cable champ’s forthcoming online service, which will be available not just on the iPad, but on the Net, on mobile devices, and more. But don’t expect to see the network on Netflix anytime soon; HBO makes more money from it’s own direct subscribers, and continues to shun Netflix’s overtures.
