Spears Keeps her Cool as X Factor Judge

November 3, 2012 By Marie F

Pop princess Britney Spears finally makes her debut as judge of a popular live singing competition on TV. Spears was described a cool and composed during the first live episode of The X Factor. She was wearing a figure-hugging dress that highlighted her curves.

Also debuting on this TV show is Khloe Kardashian Odom of the famous Kardashian family. Khloe is the new host and is paired with veteran Mario Lopez who also hosts “Extra.”

So far, Britney Spears already got a thumbs up from producer Simon Cowell for being a “very, very good judge.” She was all praises for the singers she mentors and remained undaunted when criticisms were hurled against the contestants she manage. She was caught throwing her amazing praises at three times to several contestants particularly to David Correy who found his birth mother through the show, Jennel Garcia who performed “Home Sweet Home” by Motley Crue and Emblem3.

Did you know, though, that Britney did not get a lot of positive feedback from the audience and some members during their tapings? She actually got boos from the audience which made her apprehensive about staying in the show. During a guest appearance at the “Tonight with Jay Leno” show earlier, she admitted to being affected by the boos but thankfully, Simon Cowell urged the “Toxic” singer to continue adding that she was doing a brilliant job.

Currently, there are 16 acts competing in The X Factor. Next Thursday, four will be cut by the judges that include Cowell, Antonio “L.A.” Reid and Demi Levato.

American Idol: No More Simon After This Season

January 12, 2010 By Sally

The popular singing contest is back on air, much to the delight of its ardent followers. This season is a very important one for American Idol as it seems to be a defining period. For one, longtime judge Paula Abdul exited the stage after the previous season. Various celebrities guested as judges and now it is Ellen Degeneres who has taken Paula’s place permanently.

Now it seems that American Idol is to be dealt another blow: judge Simon Cowell is leaving after this season! The news is that he has decided to say goodbye to the show, which he has been part of for the longest time, because he is bringing a new show to the United States. Dubbed “The X Factor,” the show was created by Cowell and is already popular in Great Britain. He is introducing it to the American audience via Fox.

Obviously, this decision is going to have serious effects on American Idol. As sharp as Simon’s tongue can be, no one can deny that he brings a certain flavor to the show. The interaction between him and Paula was interesting, and Paula’s leaving has already had its effects. If Simon were to go for real, it just might bring down the mighty show called American Idol.

However, Simon Cowell and other bigwigs in the TV industry say that this is not going to be the case. They predict that American Idol will continue to be a major player in the world of reality TV shows. How about you? What is your prediction?

February 22, 2008 By Marie F

One of America’s teen idol talks about…American Idol.

The star of High School Musical told MTV
that he’s a big fan of the reality show. “I have such admiration for those guys — they go literally from zero to 60 in a matter of days and they handle it like champs … I couldn’t have done that: go to the peak of your fame within a month of starting.”

He tends to agree with Simon’s comments, but his favorite judge is, by far, Paula. “She’s a real sweetheart.”

January 18, 2008 By Marie F

Simon Cowell defended American Idol against predictions that the show was losing its appeal. The show got some flack when many of its “graduates” suffered slow careers — notably Taylor Hicks, Ruben Stoddard and Katherine McPhee, who got booted from their record labels.

In his interview Simon shares show innovations, and how this batch of hopefuls has been “the best so far” because of their skill and, uhm, personality.

One of the people being his biggest fan, Renaldo Lapuz, who even wrote and performed a song for Simon.

“You know,” laughed Simon, “I have a horrible feeling that’s actually going to be a big hit.”
