Chewbacca Comes to Clone Wars

March 10, 2023 By Marie F

Original Trilogy character Chewbacca is making his debut on Star Wars: The Clone Wars this April in the show’s season finale. The two-part finale caps the show’s third season, in episodes titled “Padawan Lost” and “Wookie Hunt.”

Bringing Chewbacca to the world of animation was a daunting task, since the character’s mannerisms and personality are so engrained in fans’ minds. So Lucasfilm brought in actor Peter Mayhew, who portrayed Chewbacca in four Star Wars films, to help add realism to their digital version. They also conducted extensive research through the Lucasfilm archives for reference materials. Mayhew even provides the character’s distinct dialogue for the show, though he never did so in the films.

Details about Chewbacca’s appearance are a closely-guarded secret, but rumor has it that the storyline ties into Chewie’s past as a slave owned by the Empire.

First Look at AMC’s ‘The Killing’

March 10, 2023 By Marie F

Riding high on the success of The Walking Dead, AMC’s marketing department has kicked into high gear for its next new drama, The Killing, which is actually an American remake of a Danish hit called Forbrydelsen (which literally translates as “crime”). The Seattle-set series follows the murder investigation of a girl named Rosie Larsen from three different perspectives.

The detectives assigned to the case comprise one perspective, the victim’s grieving family is another, and the third is made up of the suspects. The twist-filled story is layered with secrets on top of secrets, most of which come from local Seattle politicians, with much more at stake in Rosie’s murder than it initially appears. Mireille Enos stars as Sarah, the lead homicide detective investigating Rosie’s death. Joining her are Billy Campbell, Michelle Forbes, Joel Kinnaman, and Brent Sexton.

The Killing debuts with a 2-hour premiere on Sunday, April 3rd. AMC clearly has high hopes for this one, having given the series a 13-episode first season order.

EW.com got the exclusive on the series’ movie-style poster, which you can view above. A pair of trailers for the show are below.

First Look at Terra Nova

March 10, 2023 By Marie F

While Fox‘s Superbowl XLV broadcast included trailers for all of this summer’s biggest blockbuster films and a whole heap of hilarious product commercials, Fox also worked in a short trailer for its big-budget scifi series Terra Nova (website). After endless casting and filming delays, Terra Nova has finally gotten off the ground, telling the story of a family in a destruction-filled future who join a program to go back to dinosaur times to try and get human society right a second time. The show is executive produced by Steven Spielberg.

If you missed it, you can get a glimpse of the dinos and other big-budget scenery in the trailer right here:

Liam Neeson Returns to Star Wars

March 10, 2023 By Marie F

Liam Neeson is lending his voice to a pivotal, 3-episode story arc set to premiere this Friday on Star Wars: The Clone Wars. On Friday’s episode, entitled “Overlords,” The Clone Wars reaches its approximate mid-point as a series, and Lucasfilm Animation is giving the show a fittingly epic storyline for this turning point.

Hot off the “Savage Oppress” story arc, in which the season finally heated up with a turn away from all the political maneuvering and (spoiler alert!) we learned that Darth Maul might have somehow survived his Episode I encounter with Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Clone Wars are finally digging deep into the mythology of the Force and Anakin’s status as the Chosen One. “Overlords” finds Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka drawn to a mysterious planet called Mortis, where Anakin learns about his destiny from a family of unusually-powerful Force users. Pernilla August also returns to voice her film character, the late Shmi Skywalker, Anakin’s mother.

Cartoon Network has been promoting Season 3 with the tagline “Secrets Revealed,” and this story arc appears to contain most of those promised secrets. Lucasfilm is touting “momentous revelations” along with some stunning betrayals. Below you’ll find a pair of brief clips from the episode. I for one will be on the edge of my seat!
