What are men always on about with chic flicks? They run like hell the minute a girlfriend decides to pick out a chic flick to watch for their Sunday movie night marathon. Sure enough some chic flicks can be quite sappy and uberly sweet you’d like to slap each other just to give it some spice. But, then again in some form of Neanderthal deduction, some guys probably just can’t find that switch when they need to get in touch with their feminine side. Either that or they just refuse to acknowledge it. However, in between that constant need for high impact action, suspense and, gore … there are quite a few good chic flicks a real man can appreciate.
Nicholas Sparks is a famed contemporary American novelist and screen writer. He has quite an array of published novels that have been adapted into movies revolving around the very core of timeless tales of love and romance that just sends you into a down ward spiral of relentless bawling. Three more of his novels namely, True Believer, Safe Haven and The Lucky One are scheduled to be released as movie adaptations sometime 2011 and 2012. All his books exude his trademark theme of love, faith, tragedy and fate, bringing the reader and movie goer into a helpless sappy state not even halfway through the story.
Quite the notorious tear jerker is “The Notebook”, which boasts of a solid leading cast with Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams portraying a young couple in the early 1940’s. Narrated in present day by James Garner as the elderly character of Ryan Gosling, to his one true love Gena Rowlands whose younger role is played by Rachel McAdams. The movie was released in 2004 and has been reputed to be the most romantic movie that year, leading to the best kiss award in the history of MTV.

The Worst Cars in Film History
Usually even in the most terrible movies, at the very least you can get a bit of viewing pleasure from the cars featured in the movie, especially in car chase scenes. However, some movies feature cars so terrible that there’s no pleasure to be found in them. This is pretty hard to do – who doesn’t love cars? Well, here are four of the worst movie cars in film history that managed to accomplish this difficult feat. Most of these films are actually good but we must still congratulate their choice of automobile for making our eyes bleed instead of going dreamy with car lust. [Read more…]
Top 5 Summer-Themed Movies
Spring Break is such a tease. While it may have left some a little refreshed, for the rest of us it just made us yearn for the real she-bang: summer vacation. Since summer is technically months away, here are a few summer themed movies to extinguish the flame—or make it brighter.
5. Blue Lagoon (1980): Featuring Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins.
No telling what season the movie actual takes place in, but the oceanic scenes are enough to make anyone want to frolic on the sandy beaches in a loin cloth. Blue Lagoon follows two young children stranded on a tropical island and displays their journey into puberty. Struggling to survive on a tropical paradise on their own and with no rules or notions of societal norms, this adventure/romance is the perfect movie to get anyone in the mood for a summer getaway.
The Blue Lagoon: Special Edition DVD
4. Vacation (1983): Featuring Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo, Imogene Coca
Arguably one of the funniest summer vacation movies of the 80s, this National Lampoon classic follows the Griswold family on a summer road trip to Wally World. On their country-cross road trip, the Griswold family encounters all sorts of challenging (and not to mention hysterical funny) situations. This flick will either get you in the mood to embark on your own family road trip or avoid it all together. [Read more…]
Matrix, Batman and Bond Rumors
There have been a number of exciting rumors in the film industry that have been announced over the past week or so that I for one would be more than happy to see come alive on the big screen. Let’s take look at some of the rumors that have popped up and assess on which have either been confirmed, are likely to be true or perhaps rumors that have occurred out of hope.
More Matrix Movies?
It would seem that at a recent event in London Keanu Reeves stated that he had been out to lunch with the Wachowski brothers and that talks of two more Matrix movies were held. According to the insider at the event the brothers have the script to split into two not three movies and that Reeves has the potential to once again take on the Neo character. Whilst the first Matrix movie was an awesome film it is safe to say that the two sequels were more about the cash cow than anything else. It wasn’t so much that they were bad films they were just not as enjoyable as the first and they went way too overboard on the special effects.
The other rumor that has come of this is that the brothers have also met up with James Cameron to discuss pros and cons of 3D and are once again looking to push the boundaries of 3 dimensional film making (much as Cameron did with Avatar).
In terms of this being true it has only come from one person that has stated that Reeves has said this and there has been no confirmation either way as of yet.
Kick-Ass 2 In The Works?
Another big rumour to hit the world over the past couple of weeks (thanks to British newspaper the Daily Mail) is that the Kick-Ass 2 screenplay is being worked on by Jane Goldman. Kick-Ass was easily my top movie from 2010 and when I spotted this I simply had to dive in to do a bit more research. Sadly what I found was nothing more than false promises from a newspaper (surprise, surprise). [Read more…]
Warehouses Used in 6 Popular Films
Warehouses provide the backdrop for many a great film scene, and they are a popular location choice for many films. Often used in action films, warehouses make great settings for fights, explosions, dodgy deals, torture scenes and much more. They make a great location to film a scene because they are large open spaces and unlike other locations have less need for extras, such as a supermarket or shopping center. So many films have famous scenes in warehouses, but here are just a few.
Reservoir Dogs is set almost entirely in an abandoned warehouse. The warehouse starts off as the safe pre-organized meeting place of a group of colorfully named criminals after a heist. However, the group discover that one of their party is an undercover cop and the location becomes much more sinister as violence ensues.
In the new flick Kick-Ass starring Aaron Johnson as Dave Lizewski (Kick Ass) and Nicholas Cage as Big Daddy, a warehouse is the setting for an amazing triumph of the goodies v the baddies. In the famous warehouse scene Big Daddy takes on the bad guys and sets fire to the warehouse. [Read more…]
