Guillermo Del Toro is one busy director. Even though he is in the midst of preproduction for The Hobbit, the director is also concurrently developing a stop-motion movie with the Jim Henson Co.
The project is a retelling of the Pinocchio fairy tale, but this time with a darker theme.
The project, to be produced by JHC, will have Del Toro executive produce. The directors for the film are Gris Grimley and Adam Parrish King.
I Am Legend prequel in the works
Apparently, director Frank Lawrence and Will Smith didn’t think that I Am Legend was a clunker.
According to Lawrence, who directed the apocalyptic flick, Warner Bros. has begun work on the prequel to I Am Legend, which amazingly grossed $584 million internationally. Amazing because the movie was so bad.
Lawrence will return as the director and Smith is also slated to reprise his character Dr. Robert Neville. He will also co-produce the movie through his Overbrook Entertainment partner James Lassiter as well as Akiva Goldsman. The script, written by DB Weiss, is reportedly already finished. The story was based on an outline that Smith, Goldsman, Lassiter and Lawrence collaborated on.
The basic premise is that the movie will feature the final days of of the virus outbreak that kills the earth’s population, leaving Neville alone.
Two key scenes missing from new Potter movie
Harry Potter purists who want to see every single scene they read on the books on the big screen will surely be up in arms upon hearing this bit of news from the Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince set.
Apparently, two pivotal events in the book will not be shown in the movie adaptation. One is the battle that takes place inside Hogwarts, and the other is Dumbledore’s funeral.
According to producer David Heyman, the battle was deliberately left out because they didn’t want a repetition of a key event. In the seventh book, there is also a battle inside the school grounds and they feel that this is the more important event. The funeral scene on the other hand, was left out because the film team felt that the ending they had thought up for the movie is the right one.
What do you guys think? A wise move or a catastrophic omission?
Spielberg not giving up Tintin
Rumors circulated that Peter Jackson would be taking over the director’s chair of the Tintin series. However, movie reps confirmed that Steven Spielberg is still on that job. However, Jackson might do the sequel. He is still busy wrapping up the movie The Lovely Bones and co-writing The Hobbit with Guillermo del Toro.
