I was just reviewing the podcasts I subscribe to and one particular episode of YouTube’s best was about a sculpture named Willard Wigan. Now he’s no ordinary artist, what he is IS truly breathtaking, in the literal sense. As he creates his art, he controls his breathing, his heart beat his thoughts, even going to the point of pure meditation.
What art requires such great attention, you may ask. Well, Willard Wigan is a micro sculptor. His art can only be viewed through a microscope! Ha! I first thought what a laugh that was but when I saw his piece for “The Wizard of Oz” sitting through the eye of a needle, I took him very seriously.
You could see from the picture above the attention to detail of every character. How he does it is beyond my comprehension.
In an interview he shared that there was a time when he accidentally “breathed in” one of the sculptures. Not impossible if it was micro-sized. Don’t think about sneezing while working too (!), otherwise it would be a feat to find all the pieces on the table, much alone the entire room.
Check more of his work right here.
