Piers Morgan Replacing Larry King

May 9, 2023 By Marie F

America’s Got Talent host and British journalist Piers Morgan has signed on with CNN as Larry King’s replacement. Though he won’t be taking over King’s chair (or trademark suspenders), he’ll be launching a similar hour-long interview program in King’s longtime time slot.

Larry King Live is scheduled to air its final show on December 16th; Morgan’s as-yet-unnamed show will begin in January. In addition to his duties on America’s Got Talent — which he’s not giving up — Morgan is also well-known in Great Britain as a newspaper reporter and editor, and as host of the BBC show Piers Morgan’s Life Stories. Morgan is also expected to contribute regular columns to CNN.com.

Larry King Live ending this fall

May 9, 2023 By Marie F

76-year-old Larry King has announced to fans and viewers that this fall, he is ending his long-running CNN talk show. Larry King Live will come to an end after 25 years on the air, holding a world record for having the longest-running show with the same host in the same time slot.

King reportedly asked to end the show on his own terms, so that he could spend more time with his family. But he has no intentions of fading out of the public spotlight, still planning periodic specials for CNN.

If CNN intends to launch a new nightly talk show in Larry King’s place, who do you think the host should be?

Larry King hosting oil spill telethon tonight

May 8, 2023 By Marie F

As the catastrophic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico enters its 63rd day, CNN has announced that Larry King will be holding a mini-telethon to benefit those whose lives have been impacted by the spill, as well as animals who have been contaminated by the oil. The telethon will also raise awareness of the things people can do to help.

Airing on CNN tonight at 8:pm EST, King’s special two-hour edition of Larry King Live will feature appearances by Justin Bieber, Cameron Diaz, Robert Redford, Kathy Griffin, and Sting, who is expected to perform. Each guest will sit at phone banks taking calls and donations, which will go to the efforts of the United Way, the National Wildlife Federation, and the Nature Conservancy.

A second part of the telethon takes place online, where viewers will be able to sign into social networks like Facebook and Twitter, to participate in a special “Social Suite” hosted by Ryan Seacrest.
